Soma is taken to relax the muscles as well as to lessen the pain and stiffness of the limbs. It is made into pill form so that it can be taken orally. The tablets come as 350mg pills which is taken three times daily. It should be taken with meals and the last one can be taken after dinner and before bedtime. If not taken with food, then it should be consumed with milk in order to avoid any stomach related discomfort. It is not recommended for people below the age of 12 to take Soma.

Other precautions include avoiding this Soma if you suffer from intermittent porphyria. If the patient has had a history of liver or kidney related problems it is better to consult with a doctor before taking Soma. If this is the case then the patient may need to alter the dose and require monitoring by a doctor while taking Soma. It has not been medically proven whether or not Soma can affect an unborn baby. However, women who are pregnant should consult their doctor before taking Soma. This rule also applies to women who are breast feeding. It is not clear whether Soma will pass through breast milk.

As far as missing a dose is concerned only take a pill if you manage remember within an hour of the prescribed time. If the prescribed time has elapsed more than an hour then it is better to forgo taking it. Playing catch up later on by taking 2 pills is not recommended with Soma. Soma comes with certain side effects. Some of the most common includes agitation, tremor, dizziness and vertigo, headache, irritability and insomnia. These side effects will be seen within a day or two from starting this medication. In rare cases other side effects such as asthma attacks, skin rash, erythema multiforme, pruritus, fixed drug eruption and reaction with meprobamate have been found.

Usually when dosage amounts are taken correctly there should be no problem with Soma. However, in the rare event of overdose emergency medical care should be sought. Symptoms of over dose include confusion, low blood pressure and fainting. There are instances when using Soma may cause drowsiness and slow reaction times. Hence, it is best to avoid operating machinery and in general doing work which require quick reflexes and attention such as driving, while taking soma. Consuming alcohol while taking Soma may heighten these side effects.
